Chat Control Secria

About

Chat Control explains the EU's proposed regulation to prevent and combat child sexual abuse online, widely called "Chat Control", in plain English: what it says, where it stands, and what it would mean for private messages.

Who it is for

People who have heard the name and want the facts, journalists, and teams that run messaging or email services and need a dated summary to start from. It is not a campaign and does not ask you to contact anyone or sign anything.

Who makes it

Chat Control is made by Secria, which makes Secria Mail and Secria VPN. We have a stake in this topic: our products rely on encryption, and laws about scanning messages affect services like ours. You should know that when you read anything here.

How we check

Every status, date and vote comes from an official record we opened on the date shown: the European Parliament's Legislative Observatory and press releases, documents published by the Council of the EU, and the legal texts. Where a government's view is given, it comes from a statement on the Council's record or the government's own website.

We do not use press reports or leaked documents for votes or positions. Where the official record is silent, so are we. Each page shows the date it was checked; treat any status as true on that date.
